Have a clear explanation about who you are and what you do

With app sites and SaaS products, this is a common practice that app companies fall into, like right here. Unless I am watching Apple TV and reading TechCrunch, I have no idea what these things mean. I think you need to clearly explain, “Your voice. Your personality. You.”

Have an opt-in box

What you’re clearly missing is an opt-in box. If people are not ready to get your app, I would have an opt-in box. “Get news and updates. Opt in.”

Don’t be vague

“A new way to share the real you.” It’s very vague. “Listen on the go. Endless possibilities.” I still have no idea what to do.

There’s a couple of ways you can look at this, but I would certainly just go right to and look at exactly what they do. They’re not selling an app, but they’re selling a service online. It’s clear, “Learn HTML, CSS, iPhone apps & more. Free trial. How it works.”

Have clear call to actions

Teamtreehouse call to actionYou have a free app. Test collecting the lead before they actually download the app. Here’s your first value proposition section, “A new way to share the real you.” Hmm, share. It sounds like a lot of work. I don’t know. This leaves a lot to be desired. I would certainly test this area.

Here at Treehouse, “Learn at your own pace. Practice makes perfect. Earn achievements.” This sounds fun. “Treehouse for iPad.”

Here on your site, “Speak up. Listen on the go.” Missing call to actions. Where are your Apple and Android buttons? No more? There’s no more Apple and Android buttons? They’re all the way down on the bottom.

Have additional buttons

Teamtreehouse testimonialsYou surely want to have additional buttons as you scroll down, along with testimonials. Get people to submit testimonials, the ones who are using your app, and then organize them in some way like this. These are a little bit hard to read, so I’d actually recommend making this easier to read.

Highlight important keywords

Also, if you do have them like this, call out some of the keywords that might be driving intent and conversions, and then use those in your headlines above each testimonial area.

Get some social proof up and running

Social proof. Run ads on Twitter, Facebook, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, TechCrunch, and then say, “As seen on New York Times, Wall Street Journal, CNN, TechCrunch.” That’s all you have to do.

Have a clear footer

Here on Treehouse, there’s, “Love your job. Start free trial.” A clear footer.
