Hey masterminders! How’s everything going today? We’re gonna talk about creating a conversion funnel. In this scenario, we have 3 step conversion funnel process where we’re generating leads from adwords. We have David Prochaska here today who’s helping us understand exactly how we can track the funnel and understand exactly what people or what keywords people are putting in to Google to understand exactly what’s actually converting. David, How you doing today?

I’m doing awesome Alex.

We’re taking a look at this conversion funnel and people go into Google and they type certain queries to find out to solve some kind of problem that they have and in the conversion funnel, we can use tools to figure out which of those queries are actually converting. David, what tools would you use and how can we understand which is actually converting?

Well some of the tools that I use is of course Google Analytics. Under adwords, you can click on search query and you can see the keywords that are triggering ads or you can also see the organic keywords coz I have a lot not provided but I’m gonna focus on the adword expected at search but you can click on mat search query and see which keywords people are opening to trigger your ads. You can also use small analytics and you can do a rank track checker. It tracks the rankings.

You gathering all that quantitative data, it can be a little bit overwhelming to really figure our how to use the best. So if I were to go at Google analytics and you said to go on mat search queries, what would that tell me

David

When you click on the adwords dropdown and click on mat search queries, it’s gonna show you all the keywords that are triggering your ads and it’s gonna show you the balance rate of what those keywords are. It’s gonna show you the page vews, it’s gonna show you the average session. And what’s really cool about Google analytics is you can above the one that shows you the mat search queries, percentafe sessions and you can see actually a dropdown that says secondary dimension. And once you click on secondary dimension, you can click on behavior and you can scroll down and you can see the landing page that they landed on. You can see the exit page that they landed on. You can see the next page that they go to after they come at the site to put that keyword. And you can see the previous page as well.

So really the process to setup this 3 step conversion funnel is just simple as setting up Google analytics, maybe having setting up Mos as you mention to pull but running pay per click ads to adwords and tracking the conversions that way?

David

Yeah, that’s right. You have to hook in your adwords account to your Google Analytics account and if you’re not doing that, you’ll see under a mat search query, you’ll see a not set keywords and that’s because you haven’t set up your adwords account with your Google analytics account.

Yeah, I find that a pretty common problem between for new clients because they’re maybe having ecommerce system or a lead generation system. And they’re tracking all of their conversions in just that lead system but not necessarily tying those conversions specifically back to the individual keyword or campaign ads.

David

Right. A lot of people, they just track the people coming to their site and then they have a goal of confirmation page and they’re not tracking in between. And what’s cool about the adwords mat search query, you can see when people drop off. You can, like I said, you can click on that secondary dimension and you can see the exit page. So you could identify the pages as step one, step2 and step3 like a thank you page or a confirmation page. And if a lot of people are dropping off in step 2, if they’re exiting that point, you need to go to that page and figure our or why a lot of people exiting for this page.

That’s very good point coz’ we be able to define each of the goals on each of those pages and have maybe not a visual representation but an idea of how people are going to the funnel on where they’re dropping off and where you have to fill those holes of those leaks. You’re gonna eventually get more people to finish line by understanding through predictive analysis what people’s intentions are on each individual pages and Google analytics are really good but using the analyst or someone like you, you can really tell not only where they drop off but what queries they are actually arriving from.

David

Right. And what’s really beneficial about knowing the exact search query is if you have a search query that’s driving all the traffic and not converting much, well that could be that they have a keyword in there that doesn’t match what’s your website is providing. What you can do with that is, you can add whatever keyword that you might expect data that’s triggering that should not be triggering. You can add that as a negative keyword.
